My mom used to put water and pennies in a sandwich bag and hang them from the top of exterior door frames to keep flies out of the house when doors were kept open in nice weather. We never had a single fly in the house. Something about the way the water magnified the pennies, and the way flies eyes worked, supposedly made flying thru the doors like an acid trip to flies. Whatever it was, it worked.

Apparently if you put pennies in a bag of water & hang it up it keeps flies away. Many restaurants use this method.

Get a gallon size Ziploc bag and it feels 3/4 full with water. Add four shiny pennies, zip the bag closed, and tie the top with some type of string. Hang them near doors outside to deter flies from coming inside old southern remedy. It works!

I watched a video about how to keep flies away from horses. The lady got the yellow, tree shaped vanilla scented car fresheners. She said flies hate vanilla.

You might try this again, this time though, attract the flies, shoo them away, then put the pennies down before they return.
I know you can hang bags of water with foil pieces in them or something like that on your porch and the flies get disoriented from the shiny so they stay away.
I haven't tried it but I've seen others test it out.
Also, painting the underside of a roof eave (the soffit) sky blue stops wasps from making nests in the corners. Because they think it's the sky. They also tend to stay away from white undersides too.
