This guy is solace for anyone who wonders how long they can stand the craziness almost everywhere else. And he is doing something valuable and real.

Native People were also spreading the seeds by carrying them around. Maybe that was one pint that William Bartram catch onto when he wrote about it, but they were probably spreading it on purpose too. As an Indigenous person, I can tell you that we do this today. I appreciate you and your sharing of knowledge!

I think you should share more about William Bertram.
He was a very amazing man who expanded the knowledge of America’s flora and had so many adventures.
Years ago I heard they were restoring his garden in Philadelphia. I’ve always wanted to visit but haven’t made it yet.

Awesome!
And while you spoke I heard a wood thrush, northern parula, and a black and white warbler which means that also a good habitat for birds.

You can use plantnet to help identify what plant you’re looking at too, always make sure to cross reference it though as it can be wrong

William Bartram was from Philly, and born in April 1739. There is a large park in Philly in his name called Bartram Garden along the Schuylkill River.

Really cool, never heard of this either, just looked up more photos of this and it almost kinda sorta resembles some sort of honeysuckle. Learn something new every day

The ground vegetation that grows in an open canopy must be good for bears. Where I grew up we had thick pine forest. Bears had to work hard to eat

So refreshing to see an interesting and unusual shrub. I'm so sick of all the bush honeysuckle in the degraded woodlands where I live.

Our region of Oregon used to be all oak savannah and was also burned to encourage herb/berry/deer growth. It’s sad because the oak savanna is more supportive of the ecosystem than the douglasfir is
