What’s digging under my fence. For the last three days i have come outside and all the dirt under my asian pear tree has been removed. What animal do you think is digging at my fruit tree? I guess whatever animal it is keeps trying to get to the fruit. I’m not sure why it just wouldn’t climb the fence and go over? ‪@UncleClaysOrchard‬ zone 7a southeastern Pennsylvania. #gardening #orchard #garden #fruit #fruits

Use some of your 2x4 wire, as you have used around the tree and lay it down (flat on the ground)
So from the tree trunk, have it 3-4 feet out. You could even use 2 layers of it, you could also tie the wire fencing together.
You may not need to buy extra wire, just cut and use some of the fence wire by cutting one end and wrap it around both layers.
You can use a # pattern laid on the ground.
On the outer edge of the fence, either bury it or bend any cut ends under to make it safer.

Can you give it an offering on the ground? Or would that only encourage it?

The soil looks very soft and broken up, they wouldn't do that in Texas clay.

It's probably a hungry animal... How about putting a bunch of bigger rocks around the base of the fence?!?
