There's been a lot of advancements in bore honing and surface finish in just the last ten years. With ring thicknesses down to 1 mm and even less in some cases, it makes me wonder why they even offer pistons with 5/64 rings anymore. They have lots of parasitic drag and they wear the bore rather quickly. Not to mention the difference between the old style oil rings and the new thinner oil rings with lower tension.
