Once upon a time, in the 1500s to be exact, some Italian sailors were feeling a little chilly while on duty. So, they decided to invent a new fabric to keep them warm and stylish while they sailed the high seas. They called it denim and it was made in Genoa, Italy. But plot twist! The material actually came from a French city called Nimes. ‘De Nimes’, which means ‘from Nimes’ in English, gave the material its name. And thus, the fabric originally known as “serge de Nimes” was born. It was long-lasting and robust, perfect for those rough and tumble sailors. And now we wear it on our butts.
