sigh... how times have changed. I just sat through 40 minutes of a talk show, and was never bored.
Cavett was such a gentleman considering what he had to put up with in this particular show. He had such immense respect for artists, and naturally they trusted him. That's why he always booked the highest caliber guests.

Part of me feels like the actors were rude and yet part of me realizes they felt they had to make a statement - Hollywood needed to change. Unfortunately I donā€™t think it did. Thank you for the video.

I'm actually surprised the audience didn't boo at some point. I think I would have.

Hm, well, all their movies together were sorta like thisā€”I think they improvised a lotā€”but sure. Maybe it would be good to look for interviews with Seymour Cassell too. He is still alive, btw. Seeing this was a great big deal; thanks again.

I love all three of them, but I think itā€™s noteworthy to say that Cassavetes was the only one who was successful at preserving his marriage. Peter Falk and Ben Gazzara.were both divorced and remarried by the end of the 1970s.

I never liked Dick Cavett, so this was gold!

Personally I've never stood Gazzara's attitude, (whenever loaded or "sober"). He always appeared to me a brawler macho, over the edge self-confident, claiming an "over the top type" on any occasion, just in order to show himself off. Pure cheap "ham" egocentrism. I still wonder why he couldn't join the Sinatra's Rat-pack fraternity, once for all...

The problem with Falk's position by this stage is that having messed about for the majority of the interview, his own common sense starts to come through, possibly because he is sobering up. So he starts to justify things by referring to the movie as something truly special. Unfortunately, it wasn't.

I really wanted to like John Cassavetes' movies but didn't. The only one that I liked was The Killing of a Chinese Bookie. I find the others very self indulgent, talky and boring, somewhat like this appearance.
