Differences between Islam and Christianity… Under Islam, God is absolutely one. Under Christianity, there’s three persons in one essence. Humanity, according to Islam, is good. Humanity, according to Christianity, is sinful by nature. It’s much easier to be bad than good and we’re naturally bent toward sin. Jesus, according to Islam, was a major prophet who performed miracles, but was not God. Jesus, according to Christians, is the second person of the eternal Trinity and added humanity in the incarnation. The incarnation was not the subtraction of deity. It was the addition of humanity. Jesus’ human nature came into existence 2,000 years ago. But his divine nature always existed. The death of Christ according to Islam, and this is the biggest difference in terms of our theology, don’t believe that Jesus ever died, much less rose from the dead. In Surah 4 of the Quran, they said Jesus never died because they believe God would never cause a prophet to go through that much suffering. So they believe Jesus was taken to Heaven (alive) and somebody was substituted for Jesus on the cross. So they say Jesus never went to the cross and of course therefore never resurrected. According to Christianity, Jesus did die and did rise in the same physical body. Islam claims the Bible is corrupted, except where it helps their theology. Then they’ll quote it and try and say, “well this part isn’t corrupted.” Christians of course believe that the Bible is the word of God. Salvation for a Muslim; work toward salvation and good deeds must outweigh the bad deeds, but Jihad is the only assurance of salvation. So if you want to be assured of being saved, then practice Jihad, die as a martyr, and you’re in immediately. Not every Muslim believes this, but some of their writings say this. Christianity believes that salvation is a free gift of forgiveness and physical resurrection via trust in Christ for his atoning work. According to Islam, Muhammad was not born of a virgin, but according to them Jesus was born of a virgin. According to Islam, Muhammad was not sinless, but they say Jesus was. According to Islam, Muhammad was not the messiah, but he’s called the messiah in Islam. According to Islam, Muhammad did no miracles, in fact he claimed he did no miracles, but they say Jesus did. According to Islam, Muhammad was not the word of God, but Jesus is called the word of God by Muslims in the Quran. According to Islam, Muhammad’s body is in the grave and they think Jesus’ body is in Heaven. They believe God took him straight to Heaven. So if I’m a Muslim and believe the Quran, I might turn into a Christian just based on that right there.
