I always crimp outer coax. I've ruined many coax when I tried to use solder clamp outers.

The problem is that for each type of socket you need a different type of crimp pliers. Can be quite costy if you just need a few connections.

Yup, all aircraft AND Spacecraft use crimped connections. They are highly reliable.
