If it was a rushing river with sharp rocks I could understand not being able to cross even when the bridge is broken. So unless there are some monsters in the water, I'm swimming.

Idk about yall, but if you swimming you'll get tired in middle of the way, and swimming through the water is really risky, especially in Silent Hill =)) unless you are cornered, because after all we don't know for sure what is under the water where you can't see, and a bunch of other bad reasons.

People saying, "Oh, but it's Silent Hill, they'd die for sure if they tried to swim across!" The characters don't know that, as far as they're concerned, they need to escape the village and get help. Hell, they could cross what bit of bridge is available and take a good leap and you'd cut out half the swim. Assuming you couldn’t just leap to the other side of the bridge, that is. These are teenagers.. I know damn well a teen boy would think to try it for fun, let alone in a life-or-death situation. Ultimately, the writers could have given us a more compelling reason why they couldn’t try. Make the water visibly hostile, give us a clearer scale of how impossibly wide it is, tell us none of the characters can swim, just anything really. Realistically, the river and bridge are probably bigger than we think it is and that's why they don't consider it, but c'mon.. in this situation... you'd at least give it a shot. I damn well would.
