I looked differently on the prohibition, after learning WHY the Women's Christian Movement targeted alcohol in the first place.
Alcoholism was at an all-time high amongst both adults and children, wives had no rights and the physical and s*xual abuse of women and children was also epidemically high and legal. So, the women targeted what they knew to be the reason behind their egregious suffering- alcohol.
Makes more sense when you actually look at the roots of the temperence movement.

Ya know what's goofy, after learning that a war on drugs doesn't work, we just went ahead and did a different, bigger war on drugs later.
