I've done this. Took like 200k cuts with a skilsaw but I finally slipped. This dude ain't lying. Only missing half of the end of my middle finger tho I got luckier than them hot dogs

My shop teacher from 25+ years ago reached under. He was a carpenter building houses. Caught his winter glove and spun his middle finger off. No cut.. just torque. Great teacher.

I just let material fall if it wants to fall. I keep my fingies above the saw.

Thank you! A great reminder. I never touch the wood but instinct is to hold it. Those hotdogs just made a core memory for me!!

I find supporting my workpiece with sacrificial cuts of wood helps with cutting accuracy too.

The only time I ever came close to getting hurt with a saw was by doing exactly what he said. I was holding the cut piece and when I tried to catch it my hand ended up close enough to the blade to nick my work glove. Great advise.

Thank you so much for this short! Been working on a project for almost 2 months a little here and there with the help of a circular saw VERY EXTREMELY CAREFULLY. Haven't had any kickback/unstable issues. Going to be cutting 90° elbow and flat aluminum in a couple days. Wish me luck, but pray for my safety!! Thank you again!

I've never done this, thankfully. Thank you for pointing it out so that I never make this mistake.

Anybody else watch that old circular saw work safety video. Guy was standing right behind when the saw kicked back and it sliced into his thigh, specifically his femoral artery.

Even better lay a sheet of plywood on the horses to act as a table, then you just lay 2x4s underneath the plywood you're cutting parallel to the cut. Nothing gets sacrificed and your plywood is fully supported.

Even if the saw doesn't kick back, it can bind and make the two sides of the cut scissor past each other. That happened to me, squeezed the inside of my finger out like stuffing.

I use a big piece of rigid foam insulation. Works everytime

Put a sheet of foam board under the workpiece and set your depth of cut so you cut through your workpiece plus about 1/4 inch into the foam board. Nothing falls, much safer.

This basically a handheld kickback like a table saw but it’s the blade that cuts the deepest 😮

I was taught to have the blade set at 1/8 of an inch above the surface of the boards since that’s the amount it may cut you, basically a scratch rather than a half inch of a severe injury
