Get into your own routine by taking your time to thoroughly check or even double check that your trailer is properly connected.
Additionally to this weeks tip:
ALWAYS use a safety pin to hold lever down.
Make sure you have the proper fit, ball size to coupler.
Have safety cables/chains properly connected.
Connect your lights and make sure they are working.

Also if you have a BullDog coupler on your trailer be sure that you start off with a new one if you have a used or older trailer because if it has been used on a dry ball it can and will grind the hitch to the point of failure and letting the coupler pop up off the ball of your tow vehicle. Itās about like dropping a 2ā trailer coupler onto a 1-7/8 ball

I've always just felt under the hitch to make sure the "latch lip" is under the ball. I've also seen the nut on the bottom come loose and fall off, always check your hitches folks.

Don't use your fingers to feel if the hitch is down on the ball, if it slides on down you can lose a finger or two.
