Agreed. I feel like some people assume they can say and do whatever they want to just because they think theyâre âlike everyone elseâ and anyone different from them is the issue. Then they get upset when they appear âdifferent from the normâ and they get the same treatment they gave. The hypocrisy is real.

that comment annoys me so much. like, why do we need to earn something that should've been a basic right to everyone in the first place? load of ignorant people are literally taking it away from us, and these same people have the audacity to tell us to "work for it?" they have to out of their fucking minds man istg

We are all humans- is that not sufficient? What other qualification must be satisfied to entitle one to respect and dignity?
The notion that some people should be cast down and doomed, their essential humanity, their fundamental status as a being worthy of respect and dignity contingent on... Something; anything ought to sicken and repulse every one of us.
"Rules should always be evaluated for their power to oppress". I got that from a Dan Olsen video, though he might have gotten it from someone else. A rule of "some people have to earn the right to be considered as/treated as people" is terrifying through that lens. We are all people; if some people can be so deprived, anyone can- you included.
Never cheer on the Face-Eating Leopards. *Never*. Never forget that you, too, have a face- for they certainly never shall.

Another way to look at it: I respect people because they are a person in the same world as I am, they have the ability to impact me, and we all stand to gain more by treating eachother well than not. It's a bit of a cynical way to look at it. I guess where I run out of respect for my fellow human is that I generally don't expect people to be "good," and for that reason, I think the call to respect people for their inherent humanity without establishing where they stand to gain from doing so is going to go over the majority of people's heads.

Respect is treating others as you would like to be treated. Everyone, regardless of background, deserves a base amount of human decency. We're all made of the same stardust. Literally. We're big bags of chemistry which is just stardust. You gain or lose respect based on your actions and interactions with any given person.
