Use wood filler for the trim holes. Spackle will fall out, I would only use that for actual drywall. Or crown caulking, regular paintable caulk will crack in those situations. Yes everything looks great right away, but will look terrible in a year.

If you mix a little dish soap and water in a spray bottle. Spray a little on your finger or a popsicle stick, go from left to right then right to left or up-down. This fills every crevice. Then your finger clean!

Hardware store makes precolored nail hole filler. Like white! A little in your finger, press it in and wipe across to fill and remove the excess. No repeat!
