I moved to rural Alabama from big city Ohio to homestead seven years ago on 55 acres. I am 45 minutes from Birmingham but I had to drive through it soon after coning here...I was on the interstate in near downtown Birmingham and a BULLET bounced off the windshield of my truck and hit a small car next to me! It didn't damage my window but it shattered the cars! Next trip, I stopped at an Auto zone store because my radiator was leaking !! It was a bad neighborhood.. I purchased Stop Leak ...gave the guy at the check out two bills..he shorted me over $10 on my change and claimed I gave him less!!!! I didn't argue and just wanted outta there so I went out to add the Stop Leak to my radiator and that same guy took off on his bike !!! His boss came out of the store looking for him !!! Guarantee he was headed to the crack house !!!!!😢 I avoid that area like the freaking plague now. Part of the problem is the judges...they let out violent felons in very little time...then they murder...some murderers only do five years in prison !!!!! They are now coming to the nicer suburbs and committing robberies,murders, etc. They let out violent felons and yet marijuana smokers are locked up here often longer !!!!!! This place is a third world sh-thole .There are many horrible issues in the rural areas too... People shoot dogs and cats for the fun of it, corrupt cops, tons of pedos in the churches and even law enforcement!!!! The good ole boy network is alive and well here. I keep to myself way out here for good reason. Wish id never moved here

it's sad cause most of the high homicide rates are attributed both to high black/black crime and a generally lower population relative to other major cities in the US, and both proportionally and by total numbers is always misrepresented by media outlets for attention, most of the death and decay of the surrounding buildings is in the hood especially in the Bessemer area
