In a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, several small incisions are made in the abdomen. A laparoscope, which is a thin tube with a camera, is inserted through one of the incisions, allowing the surgeon to visualize the gallbladder and surrounding structures on a monitor. Surgical instruments are then inserted through the other incisions to remove the gallbladder. This minimally invasive technique often results in less pain, faster recovery, and smaller scars compared to open surgery.
