Did the same thing happen to swords? I've always wondered what happened to all the millions of swords made throughout history, where did they all go?

Something that was extremely common was melting it down and turning it into farming equipment

Part of it has to do with culture and religion too (important to remember that “cult” is the root word of “culture”). For instance there’s lots of surviving Japanese swords and armor because the Japanese believed that these objects had souls and energy, and revered them greatly (largely influenced by the Shinto faith) in Christianity, however, we are told that war is a terrible thing, and that it is God’s will that we will one day beat our swords into ploughshares. And that’s exactly what the Europeans did.

Only the victors armour survived, that's why there's no French armour left.

Sort of also why we have so many stone tools: they get smaller and small if you redo them, so you have to make new ones

As someone who collects coins, including medieval and ancient ones, they are WAY more then you think. I literally just bought a small hoard of roman bronze coin fragments for 12 bucks.

Wdym we have obscene amounts of coins. Mountains of them. You can buy ancient greek coins for almost nothing.

Its like that with most metal tools and weapons..... sometimes i wonder what the metal that comprised those historical artifacts are part of now. Especially the guns of viktor orban (hungarian military engineer employed by ottomans)
