When I was a lawyer, I would often just go into the city on the weekend and check out shops. As a way to relax and pass the time.
Years later, after having lived on a low budget in Thailand for quite a while, I was back home walking around the city thinking to myself: oh yeah, this is what people do. They go shopping in the weekend. I'd almost forgotten about it!

Similarly, if you're tired of coming home with more items than you intended to buy, avoid the mall for a while. Hang out at a park instead.

i agree! I can't believe how little I crave all the 'stuff' from malls. i live quite a distance now, and don't even think about it. Used to shop in the same way as you had.
