Spending Lacs on my Education was a bad decision!?(Read the description)

Buying a TV is an expense because its value only depreciates over time. So, you lose the money you spent over a TV in the following years 📺

But if you invest that money in FD or MFs, you can get good returns over time. Isn’t education the same? 💰

Yes, you are spending on tuition fee and living expenses but if you choose the university wisely, ultimately you make huge salaries (and that is your ROI).

When I went to US for my MS, I had nothing. My parents financed my loan but I had done my homework. I knew CS graduates in US get good jobs. If I worked hard, I knew I could cover my loan and build a successful career abroad. This is why my education loan was not an expense but an investment.

Luckily, I found research assistantship which means I returned that loan immediately but even if I had not, I would have recovered that money in 2-3 years after graduation.

This was again my thought process when I went to NYU for my MBA. This time, there was no assistantship but I decided to pay off my MBA from my own savings (I was working on Wall Street before this and had saved good money). I attended MBA for one year (in which I paid 22 lakh in fee) and then I dropped out because I found the job I wanted. So, I ended up recovering the full 22 lakh in that one year itself.

If you are also contemplating MS from abroad, think about:

1️⃣ What is the expected salary in your field (for STEM fields, you can expect $80-120K salaries)

2️⃣ How long it will take you to pay off your loan

If you think you can pay off your loan in 5 years, then going abroad totally makes financial sense.

Remember, that tuition fee is not an expense, it is an INVESTMENT in yourself and if you invest wisely, you can get very handsome returns.

For me, the ROI of a foreign education from a good country and good school is not only financial but also the exposure, wonderful experiences and personal growth. A good education is priceless!

Agree?

PS. Our FUNDING MASTERCLASS covered the details of calculating ROI etc. You can watch it on our website - courses.scholarstrategy.com/courses/Funding-Worksh…

PPS. $1 = ₹50 in my time
