I recently applied to 6 jobs at the same company (German). Average 400 applicants per role. 3 of the jobs I added a cover letter accompanying my CV and the other 3 no cover letter. The cover letters were specifically tailored for each role. The 3 with no cover letter I got call back for. In general I got more callbacks with no cover letter (just CV). My theory is its the companies that are using pre-screening contractors. I'm guessing they get paid per screening and reading two documents takes longer than reading one. An important caveat might be that I have a very good executive summary on my CV's first page.

I think the times have changed, also, this doesn't apply to every situation (or specialization we have) or country. In Poland, very few companies post job info on their website. They get the application from few various sites. Cover letters were fine many, many years ago and their quality could tell you a lot about the person applying for the job, however, this made the whole process more cumbersome. Nowadays, with the similar forms, it's easier to filter out the most important CVs and interview them. Basically, the process became less human friendly and more automatized.
If a company has its own form with a cover letter, then we need to write it. If they don't, I don't think that spamming them with another document will make much difference.

Wouldn't you say it's better to go through a recruiting company instead of even using the company's website? With the first option, the recruiter can tell you the salary range, and since they get paid in proportion to your future salary, they are also interested in negotiation the biggest salary for you. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

They really make it so time consuming and laborious to apply for jobs. Workday needs a single sign on and each employer have a code so it makes it easier to apply for several jobs in a day. Having to re-type everything that is in my resume, after I already uploaded it and chose to import, is a waste of time.

This is perhaps one of the most important pieces of life advice ever. I finally came to understand about customizing my resume to fit with each job posting after watching your videos, and I am convinced it was an essential part of why I got the job I have now. I wrote a really long functional resume and for every job I would pick the items that mattered for each job description. That way I had a resume that was completely true but also showed me to be an excellent match. The other piece of advice was just using very plain formatting so the automated applicant tracking systems could pick up all those juicy details. It works, I got the job last year, and I am so happy and grateful. I hope people keep watching and taking your advice. Best wishes and good luck to everyone else who is looking for a job!
