A common mistake when sheathing your katana is this… However, what you should do is this: Keep the Tsuka-gashira, the end of the handle, at the center of your body, This is because you can only draw toward the direction the Tsuka-gashira is facing. Some call Iai, the Budo of katana drawing, “the art of constant cautiousness.” The ultimate goal is not to give any chance to the opponent to attack. So if you move the Tsuka-gashira around very time you sheath, you can’t immediately draw again if necessary. You must use your left hand more to control the sheath so that the Tsuka-gashira stays at the center. Please check out my online lessons if you want to learn katana techniques.

This suddenly makes the unfailingly dangerous Virgil suddenly feel very paranoid
Considering his use of this style and his lack of trust in others

Another reason for caution is to avoid unintended self stabbing.

There's actually an enemy in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice that sheathes their blade slowly like this. If you surprise them, they can instantly draw with a lightning-quick attack.
Now I finally know why!

Dang it really took me about 10 months learning how to properly sheath my cheap katanas (entry levels) ive been doing the common mistake this entire time. watching tutorials of how to sheath it but I kept sheathing it uncomfortably and almost stabbing my fingers countless times. but after watching this and this time actually understanding how to do it now im slowly getting the hang of it. thank you! 👍

It always amazes me just how much attention to detail goes into this stuff. Things I would literally never think about.

I never knew this, as I would probably never wield one. This information is something useful to use in a conversation and be seen as a more knowledgeable person (even if by a little).

If you read this you just got another subscriber from America. Your videos are HIGHLY educational and very informative. Also I'm admittedly obsessed with swords ESPECIALLY the legendary katana, such an absolutely BEAUTIFUL creation of mankind, though the uchigatana is equally tied with it in my personal perspective.

I one time spent like an hour and a half just focusing on chiburi in class... it's so complicated when you focus on every movement. After 11yrs of practicing, still feel like a newb when doing it compared to the founders/sensei, they do it butter smooth, no problem.... just requires more practice and more attention to detail!
