Depends on the situation, layout and angles. Sometimes its more comfortable to push then pull or pull than push. I do both.

Pull for root pass, overlap with push for surface adhesion. Do the same with vertical welds, up for penetration, down for surface adhesion on top. 3 passes total per joint, weld is not breaking.

I agree with you push or pull is dependent of the thickness, material, and what the purpose of the weld is. I have used both techniques, and I don't really have a specific preference I just make the best decision depending on what I'm trying to accomplish.

Ive been taught to push with gas and pull with flux core. Was CWB and TSSA cert. I do mostly tig stainless pipe with argon purge. Cheers

The weld metal doesn't care what direction its applied in. penetration to/through the root is going to determine which is stronger.

unless you are using flux core either is fine, but gas pull is better and push gives more pitting and more contamination

I do both depending what I'm doing and access .

Generally I push, with hard wire. Sometimes pull depends on what's goin on. With dual shield I Generally pull, unless going uphill

Both depending on material’s, positions, thickness, etc.

It actually depends on what the procedure called for on prints if it's a structural world you pull it if it's a multi pass weld then you push it

I don't weld but still find this information useful. Great presentation

The only time I ever pull is when I’m doing corner to corner seams on chutes and hoppers. This helps to fill the valley for a nice round profile and reduces undercut.

I do neither I hold 90 degrees to the steel for max penetration into the steel.

I've always pulled, if I have to then go around the corner and weld about an inch of the back side I'll usually push that.

Depends. Type of weld I'm laying also matters (short/glob/spray), what I'm welding, how thick material is (and dirty)

Like you said It all depends on the application. Most of what i do for work we push so as not to burn completely thru on thinner material. On the other hand, in frames with multipass welds we mostly pull for the better penetration.

Depends on which type of welding I'm doing. So I use both.

I've always pulled till the end of the weld
