probably the most important thing my drum teachers told me is to play for the song, rather than just playing. its rhythmicaly interesting, but it can definitely throw the others off and it just doesnt really fit.

I would save that for a spot that calls more for something interesting like that. It seemed like that part was supposed to just be pocket with a little fancy sprinkles here & there, & although what you played fit it definitely sounded more forced in there. 🙂

Cool fill, but it distracted from the main line. Put it somewhere else in the piece. A time and place for everything, but it can’t go wherever. Besides, if the conductor says you’re overplaying, that matters more than any number of people on the internet.
