Bro and the Russians were just like, "It's a jet forehead, we're all gas, no brakes. Just taxi faster."

If you're interested in experiencing this, DCS World has a MiG 21bis that simulates this brake action. Its a pain in the ass to taxi and eventually you run out of brake air pressure ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm a diesel mechanic, if I was out driving a bus or a semi and it took air brakes 3 seconds to respond I'd shit my pants

This guy's stories are really interesting. Whoever tapped him to talk for Wings Over the Rockies should get either a raise or holiday meal on the tab of the museum!
Really good stuff!
I've been watching the mini-videos as they pop up in my YT video feed...

It is very interesting to hear the experiences of a pilot from the USA, who until 1989 was our arch-enemy behind the "iron curtain". The Mig-21 was the backbone fighter of the Warsaw Pact during the Cold War and how many ? Between 4000-5000 Mig-21 all variants...But times are changing and we are waiting for delivery of F-35 now from our friends ( delivery 2035 ), USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ ๐Ÿ›ฉ๏ธ

I am not diminishing anything, but you can tell this guy has been flying the cool stuff for way longer than any of us could hope to dream, all pipers and cessnas have nose gear steering, either direct rod linkages or cables, differential braking was something you have on grumman aa5 and diamonds to name a few

Flying the Mig-21 in DCS is hilarious because it hates you and it hates itself and will kill you both given half a chance.

Obviously that brake lag got him looking the wrong way and hurt his neck!

The landing gear and its mechanism were designed to be able to take off and land on unpaved unprepared surfaces, NWS is obsolete here, it would have been destroyed

Croatian MiG 21 from Pleso airbase. After purchase of 12 Dassault Rafale airplanes, few of these will still be used as a reminder of rhe 1991-1995 war of independence.

Itโ€™s fascinating to learn about these details!

The RAF Spitfire and Hurricane used the same, or similar, system. That is how pilots, like Douglas Bader, with artificial legs could fly them. Air pressure also was used to fire the guns.

The Cesnas have steerable nose wheels (connected to the rudder controls) the SR 22 (civilian) and the B-29 do not.

The more I hear about MiGs the more I find myself respecting the guys that flew them operationally. Enemies or not they had some balls.
