Honestly had they ended up together,
One. They would clearly overpower Delena (in TVD, before they announced TO)
Two. The twins and Hope would be step siblings-ish which again wouldn't work for their future plans (aka Legacies which wasn't announced back then)
Three. It wouldn't have made sense for Care to end up with Klaus only to have him die, she's been through it enough. The fandom would go mad if they did it again
Four. Caroline is not the type of woman that would throw away everything she's had in all those years just to be with Klaus when he came back to her in TO (we know that, he does too)
Five. If they didn't kill Klaus, again it would tamper with the script. TO started with the original brothers, it's supposed to end with them. Not everyone can be as lucky as Damon.
Six. Killing Klaus off would mean Care would either be alone, and raise Hope, Liz and Jo on her own (which Alaric wouldn't allow ofc) or co-parent with Alaric and raise the twins (and Hope) which would again mean she would go back to Alaric which is just wrong atp...
Seven. She wouldn't be the best person to take care of the Salvatore School if she ended up with Klaus
Hence they didn't end up together. These are all the reasons I could think of as of now. But it's still stings like hell,
