Can you list the risks vs benefits?

calling very painful procedure a "gentle pressure" is such a doctor thing to say

I love how the fact that the baby can still go back breech wasn't mentioned or how this can cause a placenta to detach.

Funny how doctors always describe pain as pressure when it comes to painful procedures done on women

God bless women. How women sacrifice so much of their body and still have love in their hearts for their children is phenomenal.

Gentle pressure?! I had one and it felt like torture. It left several huge bruises all around my belly. It was so much pressure and pain that I could barely make out the words ā€œstop.ā€ Frank breech, epidural failed, ECV failed, had a complication free c section days later. It’s so upsetting hearing doctors call this procedure ā€œgentleā€ so pregnant women have no idea what they’re actually signing up for. I would not have agreed to it had I known the truth.

When they say ā€œgentle pressureā€, take the epidural. Just take the darn epidural.

I’m glad videos like this exist and people can comment. I had no clue how they moved breach babies and I’m glad I know from other women that is it something painful. I’m newly pregnant so having information ahead of time makes me feel more prepared and secure about things that can happen

I love how she says gentle pressure like she’s not digging her fingers into her stomach

Can we please stop saying ā€œgentle pressureā€ in women’s healthcare? ECVs, cervical checks, membrane sweeps, etc. are all painful šŸ˜‚

I had this done twice with my little one. One at 36 weeks and then again at 37 weeks. It was in the Netherlands so there was no anesthesia but I didn’t feel it was needed. It was like feeling your organs being rearranged no joke, the most uncomfortable unsettling feeling but not pain (nothing like labor for example).
The second version was successful and my baby was born healthy on his due date at home (unassisted while the midwife was rushing on her way! Haha)
For me the key was staying relaxed even when the turning was happening which feels impossible but it helps. The doctor was also wonderful and very calming and reassuring. She had music playing and dim lighting and spoke in a kind soft tone. She even asked how she should address the baby (if for example by a name we had chosen)

The video: "i love getting to do this!"
The comments: "this was absolutely awful to experience and i wouldn't wish this on my enemy"

Labor & delivery nurse here! Most of those versions turn into crash c-sections anyway šŸ’Æ I had a patient last year who’d undergone a ā€œsuccessfulā€ version & was induced. The baby looked like complete crap on the monitor! We had to do EVERYTHING we could to resuscitate him in utero. Then at delivery it became obvious why. The doctor literally had to untangle him from the cord…that they wrapped him up in in the first place! A section would’ve been MUCH safer!

Had this done to me with my third baby! Worked like a charm! No pain thanks to having a spinal and only took about 1 minute. So thankful I got to deliver naturally!!

I actually had this done three times to our 2nd son! He refused to turned and kicked himself back to breach position. He was 17 days over due. I fell and pumped my belly and was upset that my baby could've bern hurt. The doctor assured me the baby was fine but had me come in and they tried one more time to turn him head down. It worked! WOWWWW!!! WHAT a sensation it caused. A suction and a sound when he flipped down. It didn't hurt either one of us. 2 days later, he finally decided he wanted to come into the world. On Sunday night, at 9 lbs. 10 oz and 21 and a half inches. Naturally. He was my easiest delivery ā¤. Praise God! He's 47 now! ā¤šŸ˜‡

Gentle pressure my patootie. I had this done and it hurt so bad. The baby student nurses observing looked like they wanted to puke. And guess what it didn’t even work! Still had to have a cesarean

With all do respect ma’am, be a little more honest . You’ll do not apply gentle pressure. Doctors and nurses are practically DIGGING into your stomach to try to turn to baby over . It’s is PAINFUL. It takes a WHILE so while you’re having contractions you’re also being hovered by doctors and nurses who are literally digging their hands into your stomach .

Hey! I'm a nurse (for context) and i think where your intent is getting lost is the combination of 2 things:
1) not being truthful about the pain, which may take an extra second to explain and
2) following up point 1 with "i love getting to do this".

Because so many expectant mothers experience horrible pain during this procedure, while it helps them avoid invasive surgery and a longer recovery, it is PAINFUL. And that is being glossed over/ignored. As a woman, you should be advocating for women voicing their pain and how to help with it. I dont know if youve ever been ignored by the healthcare system, but it is predominantly women being ignored and expectant mothers watching this video in particular may think this is no big deal, and feel lied to when you come to turn the baby. Following it up with what you said sounds a little sadistic and though they were separate thoughts, they sounded like they belonged together. Communication with those who don't have the same education and who don't know what to expect are often caught off guard. Its a simple thing to say, "there are ways to help the pain that come along with this, but it is painful. However, itll help you avoid major abdominal surgery, a scar, infection risk, etc. ESPECIALLY because it doesn't always work.
