⭐️ Watch Josh’s Free Training, "25 Strategies for Note Reading, Reducing Tension, Memorizing, & Stage Fright”: learn.joshwrightpiano.com/training

🎹 Ever get nervous playing piano in front of other people? Maybe your hands shake, your mind goes blank, or you just feel tense and anxious? In this video, we'll break down exactly how performing more often can actually fix those nerves and help you play your best when it matters most. Whether you’re just starting lessons or you’ve been playing piano for years, these tips will help you feel more confident every time you sit down at the piano.

🎵 We’ll talk about how to prepare for a performance so you feel calm, how to gain confidence, and how performing regularly will speed up your piano progress. You’ll get simple strategies that I use with my own students (and in my own practice) to make performances feel exciting instead of feeling anxious.

🎼 This is perfect for piano students of all ages, piano teachers, and anyone who wants to play with freedom, expression, and control. Say goodbye to stage fright and hello to confident, inspired performances!

I've noticed a huge difference in my own playing since I'm playing all services for my church and posting videos by weekly. I'll definitely encourage my students to perform often too

I think this holds true and even more so if you play more than one instrument. I have always stayed active as a pianist, but one time I took a long hiatus from playing the oboe. When I next performed in public it was a disaster. It had been literally years and I still carry that baggage with me even though every previous public performance on the oboe had been relatively good or even excellent. So in my case it holds true individually for the different instruments that I play. Performing anything helps with nerves but the confidence for me is tied to the specific instrument in question.

This matches my own experience (not with piano, but in a past life playing in a festival rock band - make of that what you will). When I was performing every weekend, there was a sense of “well, I didn’t exactly nail that new part, but I’ll get it next weekend.” And as dumb as it sounds, when your brain knows the world will continue spinning when you mess up, it relaxes just a little. When you perform more, the mental stakes are lower and your tension doesn’t build up. When we’d introduce new material, it would be three or four performances before it would click.

If that is the same for piano performance, then the faster you get thru those initial few performances, the better.

Just my own experience.
