The misconception of my safety fears - this has been eating me up

This has honestly been eating me up seeing people's reactions to me saying I wouldn't meet up with a stranger who didn't have a social media presence - I should have framed it better to be how I was framing this in my head - a stranger sliding into DM's and wanting to meet up and them not having any social media presence to verify them on, that's so creepy, scary and dangerous to me hence me picturing all the creepiest things and scenarios and sharing my lack of trust and making jokes about that in the video. It wasn't meant to be the focus of the video at all, nor a reflection on people who genuinely don't want to have social media, it was just a quick little funny framing devise as we get into the bigger issue I actually wanted to talk about from your great survey responses

The kind of person who would get upset over this is the kind of person who makes such precautions necessary.

I’m uncomfortable with no social media presence, but I respect it. It’s much harder NOT to have at least something. Not everything comes back to misogyny, but when you’re confronted about what you do for safety and discretion in your daily life, angry responses are beyond inappropriate.

You don’t have to justify yourself to people who do not value your safety. That’s it. End of story.

Girl you are so right and VALID. Some of these people are just looking for an argument. To me it’s perfectly clear that you said/did absolutely nothing wrong.

That’s solid and smart advice that everyone should use

Fair. As someone who left social media for it's toxicity, i get it. Anyone who gets mad about it can't or refuses to understand you.

I feel so bad for you that you felt like you had to address this, you did nothing wrong at all and you're allowed to create that boundary for yourself to stay safe. 🥺😭 Sometimes people watch a video but they don't listen critically, and then they jump down the creator's throat and accuse them of wrongdoing while putting words in the creator's mouth and making wild assumptions about their intent. For what it's worth, I wouldn't meet up with a man with no social media presence either. Because I've had bad situations where someone lied about being single so they could cheat on their gf to be with me, or situations where someone deleted their socials to avoid being held accountable for disgusting things. My boyfriend and I have both decided to get off FB and Instagram for mental health reasons, but if I ended up single and dating again I'd reconsider being alone with a man with no online footprint because I'm a victim of SA and abuse and don't want to put myself in a bad situation agai

I don't really post my face and name online for safety issues (with a few exceptions), but I also got why you would feel uncomfortable. I didn't take your statement as aimed at me and I knew exactly what you were getting at. Your reaction spoke to me as ciswoman.

I dont have social media because people (my ex moatly) were spying on my Facebook page, I set my page to private, and he somehow still managed to spy, meaning one of my friends (probably my step sister) was spying for him. So I deleted it. Also a girl he was talking to kept making accounts to stalk me. Like girl, bye 😂

We all deal with difficult situations and feelings a little different. I think you made it clear in your video that this was how you felt and even that that isnt always 100% fair to everyone
At some point getting people to understand you isnt with you anymore, its woth them and if they cant or wont, thats there loss ❤

I'm not really sure what this is all about, but I know it's easy to get triggered when the context and intentions are misunderstood.
If anyone bothered watching your video properly, they'd see you obviously didn't mean bad.
There are different people who could be getting angry or hurt; that would include those you mention, who have had bad experiences, and also those others you mention, who are creepy. Nonetheless, it is impossible to upload content and not offend anyone. It's impossible to talk and not offend anyone.
By the way, I loved your Priscilla video. What you talked about should be considered far more seriously. Any misogynistic acts in the past shaped our culture and affect us all now.
Congrats on keeping all your wonderful work up in spite of the hate. ♥️

Yeah it’s weird to have a fit about this- I minimize my social media presence on purpose for avoiding stalkers reasons and, when I heard your take I thought. Well. It’s not like I have any reason to expect to meet this creator irl anyways. It would be very weird and parasocial for that idea to take up significant emotional bandwidth in my head. Then I moved on with my life because not every personal choice is about me.

Yeah this makes sense ❤ people get really bold and aggressive via social media comments, and take things way too far when it’s never that deep or serious. It’s all a matter of opinion. We all have different ways of engaging with the internet and no one way is superior than the other. It’s completely valid to feel uncomfortable with someone who has 0 social media presence because you have no clue what you’re getting into. and it’s also completely valid to disengage with the online world for whatever reason.

I don't really post myself on social media. I find it both stressful and somewhat unnecessary, I'm not really offended by what she's saying tho.

I'm moving out like this week, gonna live at a dorm and be independent. So maybe I'll start putting myself on social media then. Still, personally I find using it anxiety inducing. The snapchat and insta boom phase my school went through just put me off indefinitely.

It might be a bit of a hot take but it's really not that serious idk why people would give you shit about that. It makes perfect sense to me, even if it doesn't make sense to someone they shouldn't disrespect you. Your opinion is valid.
