I'm a born in Calgary raised in Alberta boy, who has worked in the oil industry including offshore off the east coast of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Even when I was down there I could not believe their attitudes, they wanted the government to do everything for them. So I say, let them find out what it's like to be without the cow that they've been milking for all these decades, let them go their own as we go our own way

As a Texan, I applaud your bid for freedom from a distant tyrant. Not sure union with the US is the best answer, though. It's like good friends getting married. Sometimes it makes for a great marriage. But sometimes marriage ruins the friendship. Whatever the outcome, I pray for Alberta's success and happiness!

I never hear anybody talk about joining the US as an unincorporated territory like Puerto Rico. All of the benefits but more autonomy than a state. Sometimes I think that the whole separation thing is just a pose.

I will never vote for Alberta independence from Ottawa only to sign up to become a state under Washington DC. I won't trade the equalization payments, federal taxes, national debt, over spending, politics, over reach and interference of Ottawa for that of Washington DC. Once we're free, I want government of Alberta, for Albertans, by Albertans, no one else. Doing business with the US is one thing, we don't need another overlord.
