You had make-up wearing glam rock all over England in the early 70's. Peter Gabriel was going all out with Genesis.

The beautiful thing about music is it’s essentially infinite and there is room for a myriad of approaches and interpretations. I personally never got into KISS either, just not my thing but I can see how it was appealing to teenager boys in the 1970s. Take all the makeup off and they are definitely a damn good band. Nothing technical but almost like a punk, glam meets chuck berry. I never compare art that can’t be compared. Each band is unique.

Glam Rock had been big in the UK for years before Kiss. Kiss just took it to another level.

Because glam artists like David Bowie and T Rex would never have come out of England Pete...

Early Kiss was an unstoppable force of nature. No one cares what you thought of them.

Pete Townsend doesn’t like anybody in the industry unless they kiss his ring.

I love The Who, but any man who performs in an ascot can't talk about anyone else's "costumes."

I've read a lot articles where Pete talks highly of what KISS did. Same with Roger Daltrey. Even in his book he has said that the way John died was very KISS like. In a hotel room with a groupie.

idk, I would say Bowie, Yes & Genesis (Peter Gabriel) was theatric. In fact Gabriel left as the group wanted to shed the stage show.

Kiss have their place in history. They are one of the most influential and entertaining bands to emerge in the 70s along with The Tubes. I always loved that whole rock theatre audio visual art thing. They are larger than life and gave the public something more than just a band playing. Plus they're great musicians underneath all that face paint and costumes. Their brand is recognised world over. Clever people who made a fortune just from merchandising alone! Besides I love The Who and Kiss. I don't compare them although i can hear The Who influence in Kiss big time. Listen to Music From The Elder!

So Townsend said that, but where is the epicenter for the black metal look? Northern Europe.

A lot of people were not sure about KISS and I think that's RAD. A whole WTF response
