Wrong Answer I saw the outline of the whole on the finished painted product. It's cheaper to use Spackle paste.

No, i wouldn't try that patch. Hit it once with 5Min, then a coat or two with LW spackle. Sand and paint. Did a bunch of these after replacing a handlerail last week and it turned out perfectly.

The patches look dumb, but the tool might be useful for getting clean edges on the hole so it's easier to patch.
