I feel like he was not a bad fit for Rory, but he did need time to find his own worth in the world. Luke is forever the better father figure though for Jess and for Rory.

I am probably the minority and that is ok, since this is only an opinion on a fictional character. Luke needed inner work (in what ever way that is meaningful) in order to be a better partner and supportive figure. He was too aggressive, impulsive, agitated, secretive, angry, at times to be present for those who loved him.

Love luke. He comes off as abrassive and hard but hes such a softie. Jess also had the best growth out of rorys bfs and he TRULY wanted to see her succeed. He got her to go back to yale.
