I think Pacino said the actor he loved the most and looked up to the most was John Cazale whom he learned the most from. The only reason he's not as mentioned as his contemporaries was because of his tragically short life. That's it. That's the only reason I can think of because I can't imagine the quality of his work declining really and what we have of his is so consistent.

When John was dying he made a touching movie with his then partner in real life Meryl Streep. The Dear Hunter was this movie, as brutal as it was, it was equally touching. It was a wonderful movie, I hope you all watch it.

I know a lot of people will roll their eyes but virtually everyone in the movie was perfectly cast. I have seen the first 2 probably more than 100 times and never tire of it.

John Cazale doesn't get the recognition he deserves despite being in 5 of the best movies of all time. I especially loved this documentary about him
