It's clear that this coach cares about winning not the health of her team. She could have been more sensitive about the subject than lecturing her about healthy eating and exercising. Such an ah

ive had a similar thing happen to me when i was in hs, teachers think they are entitled to information abt a students health and its beyond disturbing. they need to hop off their high horse and remember these are children in their care. not adults.

Maybe the coach should've just asked the parents before lecturing her, would've saved a lot of trouble. I can understand that it's safer for cheerleaders that compete to stay around the same weight if others on the team are throwing them in the air but weight gain is definitely more of something you ask the parents about so you make sure you're not dipping into a health issue which coach obviously did.

I mean... It wouldn't have harm to ask if everything was okay and actually being supportive before "lecturing"

OP's TA. Why was it a lecture instead of a conversation? Health/fitness/weight are such complicated topics, this is the equivalent of telling a depressed person to smile more.

Coach should've called the parents not talk to the girl

Call the parents. It is mortifying to be told that, "I didn't know anything about that" exactly. Calk the parents and checl her wellbeing before being concerned about the comps❤

Honestly if i was in his position I'd ask the student if they're okay. Sudden weight gain like that can be a sign of emotional eating.

Makes me wonder if the girl was already underweight and this cheer instructor was unable to discern normal weight from being too thin. She definitly should have discussed this issue with the parents first because bad eating habits often are tied into the homelife as well. I bet this will make it much harder to manage the eating disorder now. As a young girl If I had had this response Id go right back to the bulimia or anorexic behaviours. That said im wondering if the parents should have said something to the cheer instructors privately as to what was going on? I know some cheer people can be pretty wierd.

Lol 'everybody's calling me an ahole😢I mean I just told a girl we can't win with fat cheerleaders but that can't possibly make me an ahole, right

Bruh like no offense but yes girl that is like body shaming people come in all shapes and sizes they are beautiful in every way and it wouldn’t be that big of a deal if you are a little bigger it is completely fine

This is what happens when you treat kids like adults. If they still require a parent or guardian to sign a consent form, then you better believe you should be talking to a parent or guardian about any patterns or changes within that pupil.

Talk to the parents! Not the girl!

@KirstenLeafromItaly

Why on Gods green earth would you say that to a child. If the girl didn’t have an eating disorder that interaction may have prompted one. Maybe even a relapse for her. Ugh. The nerve of some people.

YES! It's not your place to tell her about her weight. Sounds like she had some family problems. Maybe you could have just let her know that you were there for her if she needed to talk. Not everyone has a terrific life behind doors. SMH

Things like that can be so sensitive and I believe weight shouldn't be talked about unless its being gained so fast it could be a health issues def the ah and 2 sizes wow such a big deal
