1月31日は、明治28年（1895年）のこの日、日本最初の交通輸送業電車として、京都電気鉄道が運行した日です。
日本で最初に営業用の電車（路面電車）が走ったのは、明治28年の京都でした。当時、文明開化の中心地は東京で、あらゆるものが東京で最初にうぶ声をあげていますが、電車が最初に登場したのは意外にも京都です。
