The PMRC testified before Congress using what they called their Filthy 15. It was 15 songs that they deemed completely filthy due to sex, drugs, violence, or what they believed was satanic worship. Prince wrote three of the 15 songs on the list.

This whole event was notable, and then it brought together a wide variety of musicians across genres to testify before Congress in opposition to the PMRC. This included Frank Zappa and Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister.

Twisted Sister was a glam metal band that wore over the top outfits with bright neon colors and extreme artistic makeup. People expected deed to show up in his stage outfit and essentially be a fool. Instead, he comes cleanly, dressed and pulls a multipage speech out of his back pocket which he delivered fabulously.. It presented one of the most coherent arguments for freedom of speech in music ever given.

It’s one of the standout events in music history that stretch across every genre. The parental advisory sticker ultimately backfired because kids started looking for albums with the sticker, and so many albums ended up with the sticker it largely became meaningless.

Xevi always pulls me in, it feels more personal if that makes sense. It's like the vibes of someone taking you to off the side to give you the tea because they found something out and MUST tell someone else about it, like dude you gotta hear this stuff it's wild man. Like no one asked a about certain topic, but it's so much more interesting when he tells it.

The hard-rock band Twisted Sister also torched some lawmakers in court during the whole "parental advisory" situation

They made "Me So Horny" the biggest hit back then. I went to Christian school, and someone was ALWAYS playing it lol. I clearly remember I was in 9th grade and we all thought it was so funny and the explicit sticker just made everyone MORE curious.

Anybody who is learning about this for the first time, please watch Dee Snyder’s testimony before congress. He ate them uppppp it’s so good. Also RIP to John Denver, he was called in to be on congress’s side but he sided with his fellow artists and was very classy and cool about it.

One thing Xevi didn't mention was that this was all launched thanks to Tipper Gore reading the lyrics to Prince's "Darling Nikki". So a special thank you to Prince and Tipper Gore for showing Gen X and older Millennial kids everywhere which albums were the best ones to listen to 😂😂

Man that whole court battle was wild, I saw you put up the photos of a few of the bigger fighters to at least nod to their credit in your short but informative video, thank you and keep up the great work! Love your videos!

Man, I thought you were going to mention how the PMTC got started because Tipper Gore bought Purple Rain for her kid and listened to Darling Nikki.

2 Live Crew was also the first group Bruce Springsteen allowed to use Born In The USA. I remember when 2 Live Crew came out. My dad didn't need the PMRC to ban them from our house.
