Hello from Germany, Germans were scared of Russians. My mum born during the war, recalled stories of otger women snd what happened to them allegedly when the russians came into Germany. She had herself only one story to tell. She was around 4 or 5 and went with her siser and mym to search for leftover potatoes on a field in east germany, when a russian searchtrupp came, they were lying flat, mum was holdin the girls mouth shut. Flashlight alighted them, they were clearly seen but the russian group pretnded not to have seen anything. I treasure this story in my heart

an uncle of mine fought in Stalingrad, survuved it and the following 10 years as a Russian POW. When he returned to Germany he was disfigured and disabled. Not only did he lose all his toes to frostbite, his hand was also damaged beyond further use and his nose and parts of his chin simply have rotten away due to frostbite and gangrene. He was one of the 6'000 lucky German soldiers who survived Stalingrad and the Siberian gulag. He died in the early 90ies as an old man. He never lost a word about his ordeal.
