Unique Rulings With Trap Monsters - Advanced Rulings

Traps monsters are unique cards that are treated as both traps and monsters when summoned through their effects. Unless they are not, in which case they have slightly different rulings. Take Paleozoic Canadia for example, when it comes to the field as a monster, it has a line of text that says this card is NOT treated as a Trap. And then there's Conquistador of the Golden Land, which stats that this card is also still a trap. So what are the different rulings of these 2 cards?

funnily enough, “You’re Finished” is treated as a trap, but she doesn’t really care since she can respond to any removal effect with her board-wipe.

I remember when trap monsters took up both a S/T zone as well as a monster zone when active

A correction about Paleozoics. If they're flipped face down, then flipped face up again, theu forget how they were summoned. They keep the stats, but they lose the monster effect immunity and they will not banish themselves if removed from the field.
It's the same reason why a Sunchro MO star will remember that it was correctly summoned, but stop counting as having been synchro summoned after being flipped face down.

This kind of shit is exactly why Master Duel needs a card test mode. You should be able to load you and a CPU opponent with any cards that you could ever want to to clear up shit like this.

There is a niche for this though Krawlers have a trap monster and are a flip archtype so when you flip it face down it becomes a trap and you can re-activate it for more advantage

A paleozoic monster flipped face down and face up again forgets how it was summoned so the "unaffected by monsters' effects" and "banish it when it leaves the field" lingering effects stop applying.

While the do get extra baggage, one of the more interesting strategies is using book of moon type effects to reset your monsters, allowing several of their effects to be reused, such as apophis and cursed idol. They also allow you to bait or redirect destruction attempts, assuming you run cards like imperial custom.

One important thing to note: World Legacy Survivor cannot add Crusadia Krawler to your hand, because it is no monster, while it is not on the field.

Here's interesting ruling about Trap monsters.
If your opponent activate Lightning Storm to destroy all your attack position trap monsters that is also treated as a Trap. You can use My Body as a Shield or similar cards that protect monsters from destruction.
However, if your opponent activate Lightning Storm to destroy Spell and Traps, you cannot use My Body as a Shield and similar cards that protect monsters from destruction.

I came across the last one when playing the Eldlich solo mode and I used imperm on one of the trap monsters. Was so confused when it went to the s/t zone.

And then there's the bonus category of trap monsters like Ze Amin.

Then what happens to conquistador if the opponent reveals Royal decree but your backrow is full?

Funnily enough there is a continuous trap card that makes trap cards you control be unable to be destroyed by battle or card effects, which is really weird on first glance until you realise most Trap cards that turn into Monsters remain Trap cards.

One interesting thing about Paleos is that they are (as far as I'm aware) the only kind of trap monsters that summon themselves from the gy instead of the backrow.

I heard somewhere that this distinction is given out based on whether theyre continuous or normal. I dont think theres any weight to that now, thinking about these examples.

Really cool idea for a gimmick.
Just summon your traps.

Funny I once saw a duel in my class in middle school once... One of my classmates has multiple continuous trap card monsters... And then his opponent managed to summon Jinzo...

Man the guy was so angry he quit.

I learn it the hard way when I summon Jinzo while I have trap monster in the field, it return to spell trap zone

I may be mistaken, but I believe that every Trap Monster that has the line of NOT being a Trap still after becoming a Monster summon themselves from the GY in response to an action (Paleos and PKs being the 2 that immediately come to mind) while the ones that DO still consider themselves Traps get activated on the field and generally don't require being a response to summon.
