That is a good improvised clamp. To have a more secure and firm grip, make the circular wrap all the way around the hose. As you complete one full wrap, cross over the first circle of wire, loosely at first, creating an "x" and continue around a second time. As your wrap approaches the "x" of crossed wire, pass directly under the "x". Pull approximately one more wraps worth of length passed beneath the "x" and pull the opposing ends to tighten the knot. This is a clove hitch. It is the best method to secure a line, rope, or wire around a cylindrical object. Top the knot with a simple half hitch, cinched tight. Any pulling of the wire tightens the grip. The complete unbroken wrap, making two wraps with only one location of the clove hitch rather than two tensioning twists 180 degrees from each other with the single wire making one wrap. If you research "Clove Hitch", you will see it is the strongest, most secure configuration any time a line is needed to be secured around a cylindrical object. Try it, I bet you'll find it works well.
