Today, on November 7, the vibrant Tokhu Emong Festival brought the Lotha Naga community together across Nagaland in a spirited post-harvest celebration. With Wokha, Dimapur, and Bhandari hosting festive gatherings, leaders, villagers, and cultural enthusiasts gathered to honor Lotha traditions.
Tokhu Emong, rooted in ancestral beliefs, celebrates the harvest and is a time for thanking the gods of the earth and sky for their blessings. In times past, village priests led these rituals, while Dungti and Chochang (village administrators) guided the communityโs harmony. โTokhuโ means going from house to house in camaraderie, while โEmongโ signifies a meaningful pause to celebrate lifeโs abundance.
This festival embodies brotherhood, forgiveness, and unity, with food, games, folklore, and lively dances shared by all. Each household contributes to the feast, symbolizing the spirit of sharing and togetherness that defines the Lotha Naga culture.
