Have you ever seen the #majestic Grianán of Aileach in Donegal?

I made a long overdue visit to a place that left quite the impression on me as a child - so much so that I had begun to think it a dream!

A glorious #medieval #fort built on an earlier #ironage #earthwork and with evidence going back to the #Neolithic - #grianánofaileach is a place you have to visit at least once.

There are tales of Gods and the #fae connected here, and a #phantom army too...

Entry is free. Check online for opening hours as the site is sometimes locked. And please if visiting, respect the site and #leavenotrace .

Let me know if you've been, and dont forget to like follow and share for more weird places, local histories and legends!

My favorite place here💚... I used to crawl through the tunnels and climb the Fort as a child, it was a regular destination on our school trips, I always felt conned when the teachers note said grianan Fort.😊 I remember it as a massive monument with loads of us scurrying around, but as an adult I was surprised by its diameter, but none the less, its a mesmerising tranquil step back to ancient times that i appreciate much more as an adult, my children loved it and now my grand daughter plays and runs along the inner wall steps and lays in the centre..
