I literally hate this misconception and I blame Square for it. Mickey only knew Aqua was in the Realm of Darkness for no more than 2 years. He only found out in 0.2 that she was there, and had no way of knowing because at the end of BBS, Aqua goes to find Terra on her own.
Not only that, but when he did know, he had to actively watch over both Sora and Riku while also being the only Keyblade Master in the Realm of light. All the while Xehanort level threats keep popping up left and right with Ansem, Xehanort, and Young Xehanort respectively
Its not his fault she was trapped in the Realm of Darkness, because it was literally impossible for him to have known she was there prior to KH1/0.2

Too be fair Mickey never even knew Aqua was in the realm of darkness for that long. The last they ever met before 0.2 was when he brought her unconscious body to yen Sid’s tower and they only met again when he was in realm of darkness. I’m not justifying that leaving her there for over a year was any better but I am saying based on context and what Mickey knew he only just seen Aqua once he was in the realm of darkness. He never had any plans leaving her there for ten years.

Three things
1. Mickey didn’t know she was in the realm of darkness till the birth by sleep 2.0/KH 2.8 Aqua’s story, so that’s like 2 years at most, and he tried to save her!!
2. Mickey had to watch over Sora and Riku so those idiots didn’t get themselves killed, all while have to deal with Xehanort-Ansem the wise edition in KH1 with all his shenanigans.
3. Mickey isn’t Sora whose protected by plot-armor. Mickey makes it very clear that going to the realm of darkness even the small heartless are hella tough to deal with. The fact that Aqua survived for as long as she did just proves how powerful of a character she is, too bad we never got to see that cause KH3 was the Sora show 🙄.
This video was hilarious tho 😂

Mickey didn't abandon Aqua she literally told him to leave her there knowing what would happen to her (she also could have gotten a Org coat from ansem but hey thats on her for not asking him for one) i dont think what Darkaqua said was a misconception i think she said it to play on mickeys feeling to try and turn him like the darkness eventually did to her and Sora cause Darkness = Negativity

I feel like because of the (justified) hate towards Disney as a corporation, which uses Mickey as their mascot, people instinctually give the most bad-faith interpretations of everything Mickey is involved with in KH.
Like, Aqua being trapped and forgotten by Mickey, wasting all of her developmental stages in basically hell? The only part of that which is even vaguely correct is that Aqua was in the Realm of Darkness for a decade, and Mickey saw her there.
What actually happened was that the adult Aqua (She and Terra, at least, have always seemed to be older than Sora and Riku) ran off on her own to find Terra, got stuck in the Realm of Darkness, and Mickey had no clue what happened to her. She quite literally dropped off the face of the Earth. A decade later, Mickey stumbles upon her in the Realm of Darkness by chance, and Aqua holds off a Heartless attack from hurting Mickey and Riku, getting swept away in the process. Riku was unaware of this, and Mickey didn't intervene because Aqua explicitly told him to go on without her. A hectic two years pass, and I can't say the Sora or Riku were in any condition to venture to the Realm of Darkness at any point during that time. Mickey and Yen Sid are very much aware that Sora and Riku would immediately attempt a reckless and ill-concieved rescue mission if they found out, so they elected not to inform the boys in order to keep them safe and not get distracted from the immediate threat of Organization XII (Who, realistically, would've most likely found out about their mission. This would be very bad, especially since Xehanort returned shortly after KH2).

Or Aqua could have saved the entire universe of a bunch of headaches by just letting Terranort fall into the Dark Realm. Just saying, she knew he was still possessed, and that she and Mickey were the only other functioning Keyblade wielders left, and therefore, the World's only protectors. I know, trying to save her friend and all, but how much of Xehanort's plan and backups would have come to a screeching halt, by NOT being in the Realm of Light for 10 years.
Side note, did this dude not see where Mickey and Riku got their butts handed to them by a Demon Tower? Mickey had more training, backup, and better protection against the Darkness, and still ended up having to retreat. That should show you don't go into the Dark, and expect to get out in one piece.

So a couple of things
1. He didn't know she was down there the whole time only since 0.2 which is right be4 kh1 when he knows
2. He had to babysit spikey boy and angsty boy because they would've gone and died without him riku between C.O. and other shit and sora during the events of kh2 and mickey claps your cheeks back up if you die in a extra spectacular way.
3. In the dark world time flows differently it wasn't 10yrs for aqua it was like 1-3
