The ancient tradition of community fishing has always been an integral part of the indigenous culture in Puvottar Bharat. This age-old custom comes alive every year at the historic Dimoria Rajaโs Parashali Bheel in Assam during the vibrant Uruka celebrations on Assamese month of Magh.
This year, like every year, the Parshali Beel witnessed the grand royal ritual of collective fishing. The event began with a warm welcome to Dimoria Raja Holising Ronghang at the Melatholi (Event Venue). Following this, the royal officials ceremoniously entered the waters, offering tamol-pan to the Panch Devota of Dimoria, marking the sacred beginning of the fishing festival.
The highlight of the day was the traditional Parshali Nritya, performed to the soulful tunes of the famous Lalilang Geet, as local artists added vibrance to the royal court (Rajdarbar).
This age-old tradition not only celebrates unity and sustenance but also preserves the cultural essence of our indigenous communities. Let us honor and cherish such practices that connect us to our roots!
