-You want denser (cold) water to carry more.
The carrying of wood does not matter or help -it is the weight of load and distribution of said load. -these log (wood) ships are smaller and not that common. -In fact I have never seen one before. Getting those logs out of a hull of a ship would be a real pain and possibly damaging.
