To check a square mark a line flip it over mark a line over the same line if they don't deviate it's square.

Just my opinion but I can’t stand those crescent folding squares. There’s a couple that float in the tool box but personally I think they’re too thick and it never fails that when unfolded you need the folded side down creating a damn near quarter inch gap under the edge you’re reading.

Hold it tight and draw a line flip it over and match the pivot and draw another line. If they don’t match perfectly it means your square is out of square
