Wow. This is the second time I’ve seen the Ballard carbines mentioned. According to Britishmuzzleloaders, Ballard carbines were also used by local militia forces of “The Red Sashes” to defend against the Fenians at the battle of Eccles Hill in 1870. If you want to see a Ballard carbine shoot and learn about that particular battle, he has a wonderful three part video series covering the battle, the units involved, and the weapons carried,

Were they popular post war by chance? Ironically I think this video unintentionally helped me identify a mystery rifle at gun shop I frequent. It's weird because not only is it a rimfire but for some reason it has a percussion nipple as well. Still trying to figure that part out.
