Totally reminded me of the last band I was in. Singer couldn't hold a microphone right to save his life, bass player would mentally check out mid-song and start playing reggae bass lines out of nowhere, and I literally have to scream at him to focus. The guitarist could play some tasty riffs, but I let him do whatever he wanted because he'd already beat cancer twice. He earned it.
And me? I spent twenty years playing beats to a click track in casino cabaret R&B bands before this, spending up to a thousand hours a year on stage in my busiest years. Pay me, and I'm in the rehearsal room before and after everyone else, and the only time a second take is needed in the studio is because someone else fucked up.
And that's why when someone you consider an "old friend" begs and pleads with you to be in their band, you say "no".

When they do the mic cupping live when I'm doing sound for them, I literally give them the stare of death. Usually, my monitors are ok with it, but sometimes I'll get feedback if they really cup and stick the thing in their mouth basically killing the sound and the pic up pattern of the mic and wham-o, feedback.
