By taking your time on the recovery phase, you create space to get your body set and prepare for the next stroke.

It may feel slower, but it gives yourself time to hold the legs down, get your shoulders forward of your hips, and produce a more efficient stroke from the catch.

Plus - think about it: if you can row slower and still cover the same distance in the same amount of time, imagine the potential from there!

I’ve literally watched men half my age, I’m 56, go 32+ strokes per minute holding a 2:05 split while I’m going 22 spm holding the same split time. It’s all about being in control throughout the whole stroke!

I row every couple days quite slowly. I consciously work on my form and have noticed a huge improvement. That being said, I am a perfectionist beginner.

True...I embarrassingly learnt this some time ago. I used to pump hard like I was Steve Redgrave..On one occasion, a slow rower was next to me. We finished about the same time and the person completed a lot further distance than me.😢

My heartrate doesn’t go up high enough when rowing, what am I doing wrong. I put it on level 7. My heartrate stays around 120🤦🏻‍
