According to what I've read online, de Haviland actually instigated a lot of fights against Fontaine, probably leading to her having a more sour personality. I read about their childhood and I think Joan was abused by Olivia first.

Oh this is known. I think I heard something about it on Karina Longworth’s podcast ages ago. They were estranged apparently. Bette Davis was good friends with Olivia and honestly that seems endorsement enough. Team Olivia!

I wonder how much of the dislike was maybe Joan stood her ground or didn’t take as much crap as Olivia, or if she was just not nice.
