Kids have friends, they need parents! When they are adults then you can be a friend.

Something that started in the late 70s, that really annoyed me was when parents started introducing their friends as " This is Amy and John" to their children instead of "This is Mr. and Mrs. Smith". When I was a child, we respected adults.

When I got on a train or bus with my Mum in the 70's I was made to stand up for adults and give them my seat, now people expect you to give up your seat for kids.

I remember being sent outside by my grandmother on a regular basis, definitely not allowed to enter an adult conversation

Don’t forget: The teachers at school and the media (entertainment, etc) began to tell children that the parents and elders did not understand because they were not as smart as the children. An example of this is global warming.

There was absolutley a period of time where i was absolutely not the adult. I did not sit at the table with the adults, i did not participate in adult conversations, i was treated as a child. But i was also very smart. Took a lot of AP classes, took community college classes in high school, was articulate, so those barriers came down much sooner for me than for my other family member, and my cousins did not engage with them in the same way. The way i was treated when i was 14 was not the way my cousins were treated when they were 14 because they were not where i was at that time, and that carried a lot of negatives and a lot of positives for me well into my adulthood

And who raised those kids? Who made them that way? Who's fault is it?

That's right, your generation.

Millennial parents who's kids are 'their best friend'. Uggh NO ! Your a parent not a friend.

As I totally agree with his statement it also needs to be pointed out that agencies like head start in Minnesota told you that you must treat them like lil adults or it bad for their mental health and if you still didn't do so they ran to social services to report you for mental abuse of a child .....

I didn't allow my son to do things that made me dislike him. The problem is that other parents allowed it from their kids and that made my son resent me.

Military kid, now 75 years old. NEVER would have ran my 5 year old butt into the living room screaming daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy when company was over. Really drives me nuts when these parents allow their little angels to DOMINATE the home.

Children are supposed to be controlled and programmed into who parents want them to be, not raised to be their best selves.

Fatherlessness is epidemic, government assistance is the cause, and tribal separation is the cure.

I was an only child and had a better vocabulary than most children. I could enter into adult conversations. In fact, they would tell me their troubles.

What happened is people like Bill here were never disciplined and because of that constantly were saying you don't have the right horseshit.
